New feature: Edit soil moisture rootzone depth

Writer: Phytech TeamPhytech Team

We're happy to announce a new addition to the soil moisture data layer, allowing growers to set their desired rootzone parameter, to better align with a specific root system or irrigation practices in each field.

Profile view Vs. Rootzone view

The soil moisture graph has 2 views, the profile view, and the rootzone view.

The profile view provides full access to soil moisture data.

The profile view allows seeing each soil profile depth individually in a stacked or overlaid configuration:

A basis for various calculations

The rootzone view displays one soil line, an average of all sensors within 1 foot (30 cm) depth. Besides the visual representation, this depth is the basis for various calculations:

  • The saturation line

  • The stress line

  • The soil moisture prediction

  • The irrigation recommendation

  • The color displayed on the web and mobile soil moisture map.

Up until now, The value for 1 foot (30 cm) was hardcoded and could not be edited.

Setting your own rootzone depth

However Growers may choose to base calculations on different soil depths depending on the crop or region, especially when deeper soil profiles actively contribute to root water supply. To support this, we’ve added the option to set a custom rootzone depth for each project in 3 simple steps:

1. Ener the soil moisture editing menu

2. Select "Root Zone"

3. Set the desired depth

That's it for now, stay tuned for our next product update
